February 22, 2012, 1:33 pm My husband and I have been raising our newly placed pre-adoptive kids for two months now- our son (age 11) and a daughter (age 10). They are our only children. Our daughter came with more psychiatric diagnoses that you can count on one hand; She had no honeymoon period at all, and had tantrums for...
3 Year Old Who Cannot Follow DirectionsFebruary 22, 2012, 11:03 am Well, I have the school district coming out to observe him on Tuesday. But I feel like they're going to laugh in my face. Because, once again, it's not impacting his development.
I will concentrate on giving easier and more direct instructions. I tried walking him in the house the other day... Going rate for tooth fairyFebruary 22, 2012, 9:55 am 4 quarters meant the world to my five year old. 4 teeth later, still giving 4 quarters each. A picture only a mother could loveFebruary 22, 2012, 8:52 am YEAH!! Another little step. Now back to the whole waiting for your next update thing. Sigh. I'm not a good wait-er. Processing Disorders as Kids GrowFebruary 22, 2012, 8:47 am Sigh. BIG sigh. YES, our kids DO NEED TO LEARN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their actions. They really do. Having a problem of some sort is not a free pass for bad behaviors.
The process of learning responsibility may be long and look very different than that of a 'typical' person though. Sleep, Night terrors, meds?February 22, 2012, 7:56 am Bumping this up to the daytime queue
At 6, J had some pretty horrible ptsd-related nightmares.
Therapy helped. In the interim, I'm not proud of this, but antihistamines helped her get through some difficult sleepless periods.
Good luck gettingFebruary 22, 2012, 6:46 am Hello and congratulations! It has been only 4 months for us and our little boy who is 3 nearly 4. I found that routine is as important for ourselves as it is the child. Making plans and having routines really reduces any anxieties or stresses felt by the parents which of course helps the child. ... Help!! ADHD kid and school workFebruary 21, 2012, 9:46 pm You mentioned that he does better in some classes than others. My son is ADHD, but he also has CAPD.
He was just re-evaluated for CAPD. The audiologist made a great suggestion that I never thought of. He should be seated in the 2nd or 3rd row because he needs the visual cues from his fellow... Focalin XRFebruary 21, 2012, 7:50 pm We have one on Focalin XR, one on Metadate CD 20 mg and one on Procentra . The one on Focalin XR also takes a follow up dose of Dexmethylph 2.5mg at lunchtime. If "E" does not take that it wears off too soon. Good luck on getting the meds right, it really makes a difference. A defiant 3 year oldFebruary 21, 2012, 7:15 pm werner719 -- about the same game here. Mine is "I'll bet you can't_____"
"...can't get your shoes on before I count to 10."
"...can't finish your toast in 2 minutes."
Bedtime variation: "I'll bet you can't get your pajamas on by the time I count to ten."... Learning disability/difficulties?February 21, 2012, 4:28 pm I'm waiting to adopt, so this is all hypothetical for us right now. I would like to learn some from people who are parents.
I am wondering about children with prenatal drug and alcohol exposures and how that has translated into their learning at school. Specifically, I would love first hand... Odd?February 21, 2012, 6:00 am How stressed was the mom while the baby was in-utero? I've seen it happen because of the mom's stress/anxiety/illness before the baby was even born.
I have heard that as well. Methadone???February 21, 2012, 5:52 am We have found out the our emom has tested positive for opiates and benzos. It has been at random times. She will have a positive screen and then several negative ones.
She is now in the third trimester. She has been prescribed Klonopin 1mg. and Celexa 20 mg. She is bi-bolar and having... Behavior Therapy questionFebruary 20, 2012, 10:16 pm Foxx, have you been pleased with the results of your son's Behavior Therapy? MelatoninFebruary 20, 2012, 2:34 pm I have found that effectiveness varies by brand also. Natures Bounty seems to be most effective for my son. He takes 5 mg. He was up to 9 mg on another brand, with no effect. |
